Why Dark Souls 2 and Not Dark Souls 1 Empty Why Dark Souls 2 and Not Dark Souls 1

So, as the title says...why is there a forum for Dark Souls 2 and not Dark Souls 1?   Because I like DSK2 a lot more. Shocked  I've played this game since release day and have many 100's of hours devoted to it.   Conversely, I hardly played DSK1 at all.  Once up until Anor Londo and the infamous archers, when I rage quite for six months.  Next I played up to the beginning of Lost Izalith, which I hated, and never finished the game.   I've thought about buying the Steam only version since mine still has Windows Live which is now defunct, but I can't even muster the interest to try again.  I did like The Painted World a lot though.

No mistake, DSK1 is a good game, but in my opinion, many people tend to look back on it with rose coloured glasses and ignore the faults of the game while complaining bitterly about DSK2.  Both games have their issues, but for my money DSK2 is the better game.

I can just hear people rattling their chains and hollowing over my comments, but that's OK.   I've heard it all before, but come and tell me why you prefer one game over the other and I'll put forward my reasons for the same.

    Praise the Sun!   sunny

By the way, I've never played Demon Souls because I don't have a console, so I have no comment to make on that game.

In the meantime I found this video to be very appropriate and very funny.   Irony plus.

It's mostly satirical but with a large dash of truth. Laughing   What he says in the video about masochists is true though.

We get slashed by blades, gored by spears, flattened by clubs and hammers, poisoned, cursed, petrified, annhialated by magic, especially Hexes, scorched by Pyromancy, and the many other ways to die, but that really, really terrible enemy that everyone fears most of all and that kills us over and over again....gravity...is always waiting.

Yet we come back for more.  bom And love it.

LoL yeah that is a good sign of being a masochists, but as long as you like the game that much then who cares about that. Very Happy

I purchased Dark Souls at the recent Steam sale for $4.99 which was too good a price to pass up.

Played for a couple of frustrating hours.  Frustrating mainly because of the poor frame rate that chops and changes and awful camera which got me killed a couple of times.   I died twice to the Taurus Demon believe it or not, because I kept getting stuck under him.

However, I haven't yet installed DSFix this time which I was using before so maybe that will help.  I seem to remember it did fix a lot of frame rate issues, among other things.

After playing Dark Souls 2 and SOTFS I had some trouble with the combat which is nowhere near as smooth and I find rolling and dodging isn't nearly as intuitive.  This game is made for backstab fishing and I could never understand why people say the combat is superior to the later games.

I'm playing as a Pyromancer using a long sword, so far upgraded to +5, but I got the Large Ember before I quit for the night.  Took me awhile to find a weapon that actually suited me in this game whereas in DKS2 it's an easy choice.  Movesets are different for some weapons too, which takes getting used to.

I have a lot of hours played when the game was with GFWL but that was a couple of years ago and I was fairly adept, considering I played alone.  Not necessarily by choice but even though the game is supposed to be still played by lots of people now, I rarely see anyone.  Probably that's because of being hollow so I don't see signs or messages and it works differently to Dark Souls 2.

I am happy to say I killed the Capra Demon first try which was one of the banes of my existence previously, and the Gargoyles in about two minutes.  Solaire even survived and his AI is about as good as Lucatiel's in DKS2, which is to say, terrible.  Maybe it's just his low health pool.   scratch

It remains to be seen how I go with the archers in Anor Londo if I get that far, but I discovered poison arrows last time so that's probably going to be the strategy this time.  They are the biggest reason I rage quit a few times.

People criticize Dark Souls 2, or more recently Scholar of the First Sin for having cheap ambushes and groups of enemies as well as adds in boss fights....they need to take another look at Dark Souls.

The deciding point whether I finish it will most likely be the last third of the game where it was rushed and a lot of cut and paste went on...ie Lost Izalith.  Not to mention the Bed of Chaos.
