In view of the fact that some of the old beauty mods have stopped being supported I would be grateful to learn how to enable extra eyes and hairs for the player character please.

Setting eyes and hair to be playable in the CS Empty Re: Setting eyes and hair to be playable in the CS

This is how I do it.   I typed this up for myself and someone else a long time ago so it was easy to just copy it here.

It may seem tedious to some, but I prefer it to just making copies of items.  Quite often there's only a couple or so hair styles, or eyes, that I like from a particular mod so I don't add them all and this is a quick way to do it.

To manually add eyes and hair to your custom or vanilla races this is the method I prefer. Even though using Wrye Bash is one way of doing it, this is also foolproof and simple. It prevents conflicts absolutely. It can be time consuming, but is easy and you can customize your race individually to your specifications.

To use eye meshes other than the default human eyes add the required meshes to your race folder and direct the eyes path to those files. ie Elaborate Eyes or Ren's.

I place the eye and hair files I want for my race in it's own folders, but you can also have them all in one central directory and direct the path to them. However, for a race you plan to release you must make sure people know what files they also need to download. Having them all in your race folders does away for the necessity to download extra files. It can also depend on how much hard drive space you have as well because hair files are usually large.

    EYES

    1. Load the Construction Set, then click "File", then "Data." Put a check in Oblivion.esm and the Race file you want to add the eyes to. Make your plugin Active by selecting the "Set As Active File" button. Click OK and let the CS load the files.

    2. At the top Menu click Character, and then Eyes. A list of all the eyes currently in use by the default game and and any already in your plugin will appear. Right Click on any one of the eyes in the list and select New. Give the new eye an ID, for example, "MARenEye01"

    3. Add a name for it in the field to the right. This is the name you will see in game. Make sure to check Playable or they won't be selectable in the game. Click on Add Image File. Navigate to your race's directory and find the texture (.DDS) you need in the window that opens and click OK.
Every time you click OK you need to reopen the eyes menu to add a new one.

    4. Continue this process for any further eyes you want to add. Remember if you're using different eye meshes to the default make sure to change the paths in your race's Body Data page.

    5. After you've added all the eyes you want to use, click Character again, then Race. A list of all races is on the left of the Race form. Find your race and click on it. Select the Body Data tab.

    6. Once again, select Character, and then Eyes. Scroll down to the eyes you've added to the list. Drag the eyes (text) and drop them into the Eye Colors section in the Body Data tab. Do it slowly. If you're doing it correctly the cursor should have an + next to it and the name of the new eyes will appear in the box.

    7. After dragging and dropping all the eyes you need, make sure to SAVE the changes. Now, when you are in the game the eyes will be available for selection.

    HAIR

Basically it's the same process. Only this time select Character, then Hair.

1.This time you need to select a mesh and a texture so do that using the same method.

    2. Make sure to tick Playable and whether you want it used by both genders or only one.

    3. This time in your race form, drag the hair to the Body Data/ Hair Menu.

    4. Click OK and SAVE your plugin.

    EYELASHES

The Working Eyelashes mod has two HTML tutorials to download for dealing with adding them to races and are very easy to follow. They have plenty of screen shots for selection. The readme has this info as well.

You can also add the particular lashes to your race's folders if you want to and direct the paths to those folders instead.

Have you used the CS before? It's not as daunting as it first seems and if you make a mistake it's usually easy fixed.

If you tell me which eyes and hairs you want to use and the race, if not vanilla, I might be able to put it together for you. I have pretty well all eye and hair mods and most custom races. If it looks like being a huge file for me to upload though I'll just do an esp and you can install the other files as needed.

The only thing is I don't know when I'll get to it. Might not be until sometime next week.

Not for a few years I admit. I am actually functioning today a bit and have already got a couple of different eyes available for my Dunmer character. For some strange reason I have never wanted red eyes for Dunmer characters despite the lore.

Thank you so much for the offer and I might take you up on it in the future but for now I am actually quite enjoying reminding myself of the Oblivion modding problems compared to the Skyrim ones LOL

    You're welcome.  Smile

There's one big side effect that happens when starting to use the CS regularly though.   It becomes addictive and if you end up like me you'll enjoy seeing what you can make more than playing the game. study

I agree.  I never liked red eyes either, or black ones for Wood Elves who I think look better with mid green eyes, or variations of brown.

Personally speaking, after all this time I don't care that much about the Lore, just as long as things don't seem too out of place in the world.   Anyway, Bethesda themselves butcher their own Lore to suit themselves from game to game.

Well I am lost again, and the 2 eyes I thought I had got working weren't after all. Just to be safe I have installed my "clean Oblivion" backup and will think about trying again. I love both these games but I seriously wish that adding mods was a lot easier. It is not that I am stupid, after all I can design embroidery and transfer it to the special card for computer aided embroidery machines, but I just don't get the CS and most the the more complex mods Crying or Very sad

I know how you feel.  I'm pretty good with computers and software, but I'm too embarrassed to tell you a couple of things I've had trouble getting my head around.

Not all mods have a clear and well set out description or Readme either and some of them are a mess, which applies to some popular mods I might add.   I find it annoying to try to sort out the relevant info from the updates and other extraneous text sometimes.   The main thing that really gripes me is ever since Skyrim mods started coming out people seem to have decided that including a Readme in the downloaded files was unnecessary.  Mad

I more or less forced myself to learn the CS because I wanted my dog in the game as a companion come hell or high water, and except for two wonderful people, one who helped with the script and the other who made a custom model and texture, no-one was interested in helping me.   Animal companions aren't as popular as sexy boys and girls so very few people care.   That was when I first started and I've had help from others since like Waalx who made the final custom mesh and textures for me.

I took a couple of glances at the Skyrim Creation Kit and decided I wasn't interested and at the time the CK had some kind of bug that they took ages to fix.

Well, anyway the offer is still open if you would like me to do it for you.  Just tell me exactly what you need.

On my old pc hard-drive I have all your animal companions and races stored in their own folder - and I have been nagging my brother and/or my cousin to get all my data off it and onto an external drive so that I can access them.

I am fighting a losing battle with depression at the moment - the black hole seems very large, however I know that it will pass in time. I find playing helps to distract me and that is what I need.

I think that I will go back to Ren's Mystic Elves for now. I quite like Jeepers_Creepers and Elaborate Eyes. I actually have a mod that will install Oblivion Character Overhaul 2 and the Complete Cosmetic Compilation into one OMOD but I can't work out how to make it work with only a portion of the eyes and hairs in the CCC 1.8 which is about 4 GB on its own. Also I think that OCO 2 is superb in technical terms however it makes the elven features too sharp and angular in my opinion.

I understand what you're going through, and I mean I do understand. Most times, nearly all of my spare time, and some that really isn't, is spent inside a game so I don't have to think about anything else. Ironically, in rpg's we're taking on other people's problems as well as our character's, but it's still a diversion.

I actually feel that getting into a rpg is a healthy way to divert oneself, and you can even vent some of the frustrations of life in the activity without distressing other people.

I purchased the upgraded version and it's giving me some hair raising moments with all the changes they've made to enemies and such. I am enjoying it, and already clocking up the hours. Setting eyes and hair to be playable in the CS 2418090992

Excellent, I am delighted that you are rising to the challenge bounce

Now to try and get Oblivion working again after having spent several hours cleaning up the printer ink that my young cat spread on the carpet, my favourite bed linen and a few other places. I am still trying to work out how he broke a bottle that was inside shrink wrapped plastic, a double lined box and then tightly packed inside a larger box affraid

I don't have a cat now, but I have had numerous kitties over the years.  I would like to have one, or more, but I have an obnoxious neighbour who has cats that are pretty much feral and there are always fights and I don't want to add to that.  And more to do with him and animals, but it's a long story.

How in the world did you get the ink out of the carpet, let alone the other places?  If you were able to do that is. Setting eyes and hair to be playable in the CS 2129777071

I haven't managed to get it out of the carpet, or the bed linen.  Fortunately my walls and woodwork are painted with an easy to clean water based paint and they are fine Very Happy

In this area the main problem is large foxes that occasionally take cats.  My large red dog is very good at keeping the garden clear of them and he is Giddycat's best friend Very Happy
